During prohibition, liquor-deprived Americans would hop across the Atlantic for glamorous tea dances and cocktails in London. The place to b eseen drinking "mixed drinks", as cocktails were known during the decadent 1920s and 1930s, was the American Bar at the Savoy. The barman at that time was Harry Craddock and he wrote The Savoy Cocktail Book, which was first published in 1930. This new edition has been updated by Peter Dorelli, the new Head Barman at the Savoy. In it you will find recipes for Daisies, Slings, Shrubs, Smashes, Fizzes, Juleps, Fixes and a whole lot more. Like his predecessors, Dorelli has invented a few cocktails himself and his latest is the Millennium--gin, Midori, Limoncello and mango juice. The book is illustrated with Deco drawings and will make a fabulous gift. --Dale Kneen

Harry Craddock! Savoy! Originalrezepte!
Wer jetzt noch nicht ueberwaeltigt ist, wird dies spaetestens beim Durchblaettern des Buches mit vielen Originalillustrationen sein, mit denen das Buch zum Mixen anregt.Toll sind auch die Kommentare zu einigen Drinks.
Wer nun begeistert zum Shaker greift, kann in seinem Tatendrang bei vielen Rezepten aber jaeh gebremst werden. Wer hat "Pimento Dram", "Hercules" oder "Picota" griffbereit, bzw. weiss, was das eigentlich ist?
Hier wuerde ein Glossar ggf. mit Ersatzvorschlaegen gute Dienste leisten.
Hierauf verzichtet der Herausgeber P. Dorelli aber und steuert quasi als Ersatz eigene Rezepte bei. Ausserdem verraet er der gebannten Leserschaft, dass sein Lieblingscocktail der "White Russian" ist...

Whether you're a cocktail veteran, or just starting out, the Savoy Coctail Book is an absolute must-have companion to any bar. It's got loads of recipes for favorites like Manhattans and Rob Roys, and even a few new ones (Millenium cocktail), not to mention that nifty bookmark that's attached so that you don't lose your place while mixing. This is one page-turner I can't put down. Mmmmmm!
